PTC releases RSD 9.0 PDF Print E-mail

Jim Barrett-Smith of PTC has just announced the release of version 9.0 of Routed Systems Designer (a.k.a. RSDesigner) containing many desirable features, new icons and a skin to match Wildfire 5.0.

Remember if you're on maintenance with PTC it's quite likely you're already entitled to RSD Lite - it is available as part of many Pro/ENGINEER license packs. Find out about it here and download it here.

Also, Wildfire 5.0 contains the massively overhauled Cabling application, which introduced a new interface that makes the 3D side of harnesses much easier to create and modify.

Highlights of the new release include:

  • New and improved import and export formats - CGM and PDF have been added, PDF supports multiple pages. DXF and DWG have been brought up to date
  • Inline connectors - create and manipulate inline connectors that can now have ports on either side to propagate properties (parameters) through signal networks
  • Support for TrueType fonts - add your own fonts to a design, including extra languages
  • Move to sheet - a reliable way of breaking a design up across sheets has been provided that maintains the connectivity and inserts the cross-sheet reference graphics automatically
  • Ability to create "draft groups" containing a range of sheet elements they can even be created on the fly from items placed on the sheet
  • Support for CoCreate Cabling - export in a format suitable for transfer of wires and connectors to the 3D Cabling package

There is also enhanced support for highways and fibers, including:
  • Enhanced ability to route fibers and highways across sheets that greatly reduces the number of clicks
  • Label support for highways
  • Ability for fibers and cables to be added to and removed from highways

We highly recommend you update your licenses and try it out ready for the release of the production version.
