Q: What is the local catalog?
A: The local catalog is a cache of items that are either: - Copies of central catalog items used in the design
- Catalog items not in the Central Catalog (may or may no be used in the design)
The use of the local catalog serves several purposes:
- It allows a design to continue to use an old version of a central catalog item (e.g. if a design is active but using old inventory). If catalog verify is run then these items will be listed as ‘central catalog newer’.
- It allows a design to be set to be ‘independent’ but still usable. It can be used like a design that is not related to a central catalog but can be liked back easily (e.g. if sending offsite or archiving).
- It allows editors to modify items and test locally without affecting the central catalog.
